Hundreds of species of birds, including the Resplendent Quetzal
Over 960 different species of birds including around 120 migratory species and 12 endemic varieties. In addition to this, over 100 of the species are from South American origins or not found in the rest of Central America.
Panama City is rich with bird life, with several national parks including Camino de Cruces National Park and Soberanía National Park. Bocas del Toro Archipelago is a prime birding spot, and is home to many varieties of bird, including the black guan, purple-throated mountain gem, bare-necked umbrella bird and white-tailed emerald. Chiriquí Highlands are known for the diversity of the bird life that inhabits the dense cloud forests of this beautiful region. The resplendent quetzal is considered among the world’s most beautiful birds and is particularly well-known in this region.
