Best of Panama means a visit to the country’s hot spots. For sure you will need some time to spend in the modern capital, Panama City. Its historical parts, Old Panama and the colonial quarter of Casco Viejo, will set an interesting contrast to the state of the art skyscrapers of international banking and insurance companies. One huge highlight not to be missed by any visitor is of course the Panama Canal. Built at the beginning of the last century it had a lasting impact in the forming of the Republic of Panama. The Canal’s well functioning is undoubtedly of highest importance for world trade and vital for the Central American country.
Other destinations marked “best of” include different mountain retreats in the Chiriqui highlands. Situated on the flanks of Baru volcano – with an elevation of 3475m the highest point in Panama – lovely villages as Boquete or Volcan are not to be missed. The green and fertile area with its climate of eternal spring will most definitely enchant you.
Very different to the cloud forests of the highlands, the tropical forests and white sand beaches of Panama’s coastline are characterized by a hot and humid climate. The turquoise waters surrounding small islands, the abundance of fish and the local traditions and customs make various beach destinations part of your best of Panama program.
