What to bring

In Panama City the people are very well dressed and take pride in their appearance. In the rural areas and because of the relatively large fluctuations in temperature it is always a good idea to have long sleeves and even a jacket for the cooler spots. Long sleeves are also comfortable at night as they will protect you from mosquitoes. You will want light clothing such as cotton tee shirts as well, as the temperatures can be quite hot. Be sure to bring a good pair of shoes for any excursions as open-toed shoes are not recommended. Also, be sure to bring a pair of beach sandals and light shoes for when it is much hotter out. And bring an umbrella regardless of whether it is the wet or dry season.

Basic Packing List:Sun screen,Light Jacket & Raincoat,Mosquito repellent,Long sleeved shirts & T-shirts,Medications,Sandals & Bathing Suit,Toiletry items,Comfortable walking shoes,Binoculars,Shorts & Long Pants,Camera,Hat or Cap

Day 01: Arrival in Panama City

Upon arrival to Panama, a representative of Panama Trails will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your city hotel for your first night in Panama.

Panama City is the capital and largest city in the country. It is home to a diverse blend of cultures and an enormous historical sector in the Old City. The lively and vibrant banking district on the other hand is very modern and often compared to Miami. Panama City is a thrilling location you willsurely enjoy during your visit to this gorgeous country.

Overnight at Bristol Panama Hotel, Deluxe Room and breakfast included

Day 02: Partial Panama Canal Transit

After the transfer from your hotel to Flamenco Resort and Marina, the partial transit starts with a motor coach ride for 45 minute to the town of Gamboa where the Panama Canal Dredging Division is located. Once in Gamboa, you will aboard the cruise ship to start the water portion of the tour. You will enter the canal at the north end of the Gaillard Cut, where the Chagres River flows into the canal. The Gaillard Cut (also known as Culebra Cut because its curves resemble a snake) is one of the main points of interest for visitors because it was carved through the Continental Divide and this section of the Canal is full of history and geological value. Your boat will travel the Cut's 13.7 kilometers on the way to Pedro Miguel Locks. As you transit the Cut you will be able to appreciate the continuous maintenance that this area requires, because it is very susceptible to landslides. In this area you will also be able to observe the work in process for the Panama Canal expansion project.

Before reaching the Pedro Miguel Locks at the southern end of the Cut, you will be able to view the new Centennial Bridge which crosses over the Canal. Next, your ship will enter Pedro Miguel Locks, which is one of the two sets of locks on the Pacific side, and here the vessel is lowered 9 meters in one step. You will then enter Miraflores Lake, which is a small artificial body of fresh water that separates Pedro Miguel from Miraflores Locks, the latter being the final set of locks before reaching the Pacific Ocean.

At Miraflores Locks the vessel is lowered 16 meters in two distinct steps. Once in the Pacific Ocean the vessel will sail to the beautiful Flamenco Marina where passengers disembark. On the way to Flamenco, you will pass under the Bridge of the Americas, and later, you will be able to admire the Bay of Panama and Panama Citys splendorous skyline. Upon arrival at Flamenco you will be transferred back to your city hotel.

Night Tour at Casco Antiguo
This afternoon one of our representatives will pick you up at your hotel to start the tour. The historical center of Panama City is called “Casco Antiguo” (Old Quarter). It is calm, charming district of narrow streets overlooked by flower decorated balconies of two and three-story houses. In the “Casco Antiguo” lies French Park, a monument to the French builders who started the Panama Canal. Some superb museums are found in the Old Quarter, including the Canal Museum, which traces Panama's history. On the other side you can find the Museum of National History and the old cathedral, with shiny spires inlaid with mother-of-pearl. In the San Jose Cathedral nearby is the gorgeous Gold Altar, intricately carved of wood and gilded with gold. Another attractive building you should not miss is the Presidential House.

Overnight at Bristol Panama Hotel, Deluxe Room and breakfast included.

Day 03: Panama City - David - Boquete

In the morning you will be transferred to the domestic airport in Panama City to fly to David. Upon arrival to David our representative will pick you up and bring you to Boquete.

In the afternoon you will enjoy a Coffee Tour at Finca Lerida.

On this tour you will learn about the cultivation and process of the coffee bean and you will never look at your morning cup of joy the same once you have taken a coffee tour. Even coffee snobs will glean insight not only into the meticulous growing process but into the economics of the local Ngöbe-Buglé indigenous labor and culture; the shade-grown theory to protect the environment and to grow a better bean, the effect coffee has on the world, and what coffee producers really think about Starbucks. Tours are capped off with a cupping, which, much like a wine-tasting, gives you a chance to sample different flavors, strengths, and roasts.

Overnight at Panamonte Inn & Spa Garden Terrace Room, breakfast included.

Day 04: Nature Walk at Finca Lerida

Enjoy hiking at Finca Lerida’s natural reserve, a unique place to study and experience the cloud forest environment and to discover the flora and fauna hidden within. Many of the birds found in Panama can be seen in Finca Lerida’s Estate, as well as many species of plants and trees. Hike through the forest to a hidden waterfall leaving civilization behind and relax listening to the sound of birds. The trails vary in degree of difficulty and one is handicap accessible.

Day 07: Panama City - San Blas

A representative of Panama Trails will pick you up at your Panama City hotel early in the morning and transfer you in approximately 3 hours to Carti. You will first take the Panamerican Highway east towards the Darien Province and then turn left to cross the San Blas Mountain Range in El Llano de Carti. After crossing a river, you will get to the indigenous village of Carti.

Upon arrival, the captain of your sailboat will be waiting for you and take you on a short boat transfer from the village to the Catamaran.

The pristine San Blas Archipelago includes picture-perfect tropical islands with white sand and coconut trees. Depending on whom you ask, the number of islands varies between 365 and 380, many of them with no people living on them. Less than 60 islands are home by an Indian tribe, the Kuna. The Kuna is one of the best preserved of all the indigenous cultures of the Americas. The Kuna people are so determined to protect their heritage that they have maintained their autonomy since the Spanish first arrived over 500 years ago. The San Blas province has its own government – the indigenous independent congress – and each island is run by a chief. Tourism is limited to only a few of the islands. But with its turquoise waters, the white sand beaches dotted with palm trees and thatched-roof Kuna villages, the San Blas Archipelago is absolutely worth a visit.
