The Canopy Lodge is a full service lodge specializing in nature tourism, particularly birds. It's one of the best sites for Panama birding anywhere in the country. It is about 60 miles west of Panama City in the picturesque village of El Valle de Anton, right in the center of a gigantic crater of an extinct volcano. This is the largest inhabited crater in the Western Hemisphere and second only to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It is surrounded by the Cerro Gaital Natural Monument.
The facilities of the Canopy Lodge are new and well planned, the rooms are spacious and airy with views of the lovely grounds. The Canopy Lodge offers 12 single or double rooms and 2 Suites.
At the Canopy Lodge you will be served three daily meals. Each meal features fresh and local ingredients and vary every day. Water and fruit juices are always included with the meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the outside but sheltered dining room with magnificent views of the surrounding forest. At the dining table you will also have the opportunity to get to know the other bird watchers staying at the Canopy Lodge.

What should I bring for my visit? Mid-December to May is the dry season in Panama. We receive very little rain, and the days are beautifully sunny and breezy. Outdoor clothing, preferably made of cotton, of neutral colors to blend with the surroundings and facilitate wildlife observation. You may ask, what are neutral colors? Well, think of a Hawaiian shirt, the opposite of that is attire of neutral colors. For dinner, we like to dress up a bit, nothing fancy, something in between Bermuda shorts and a dinner jacket. Please bring a good hat to shade your head from the strong, near-equatorial sun.
