The day visit includes boat transportation, the guided tour and lunch. The trip starts at 7:15 a.m. on week days and at 8:00 a.m. on weekends. The boat departs from the dock at Gamboa and arrives at Barro Colorado 45 minutes to an hour later. The guide will give some information about natural history and prepare the group for the walk along the trail. This is a 2-3 hour hike. The walk ends at the Visitor Center, where you will find an exhibition regarding Barro Colorado Nature Monument. After the Visitors Center you will head to the cafeteria to have lunch. This is a cafeteria-style lunch with a variety of dishes, including a vegetarian section, since some of the scientists that live and work at Barro Colorado are also vegetarian. After lunch, you will have time to ask questions and relax. The boat departs to Gamboa at 3:40 on weekdays (arrives at Gamboa at 4:20 p.m.) and at 2:30 p.m. (arrives at Gamboa at 3:30 p.m.) on weekends.
Remember to bring hiking shoes, long pants, camera, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent and water.
